The Guardians of the Cedars Party issued the following communiqué:
The international community is making a big mistake in believing that it can deter the Syrian beast from devouring Lebanon by diplomatic means and economic sanctions or by issuing more resolutions and flashy statements that always end with the ridiculous admonition for “self-control”.
If the international community is serious about rescuing Lebanon from the jaws of this unbridled wild beast, it has to replace its cables of condolences, solidarity and denunciation with prompt action that can put an end to this serial killing spree that has been ongoing for decades. It has to stop treating the cancer with potions and stop trying to deter Syria by pleading and convincing, and instead brandish a big stick.
The Lebanese people are sick and tired of empty words, sterile promises and international resolutions that keep on piling up waiting to be implemented. The Lebanese people no longer believe that the international custody is protecting them after all these martyrs, assassinations and bombings. They prefer to depend on themselves in managing their affairs, with the Army’s handling of Nahr Al-Bared as the example, and without relying on the great illusion that is the so-called international community.
The Syrian-Iranian alliance has so far proven to be stringer than the international alliance, at least on the short term. The former has the initiative while the latter is impotently reacting. To say that the odds are in favor of the international community on the long term may be true, but who can secure the lives of the Lebanese people until that time comes?
Until the international community rises from its deep slumber, we only pray that the price of waiting won’t be exorbitant as it is expected to be.
Lebanon, at your service
