The Guardians of the Cedars Party issued the following weekly communiqué:

Angst, Despair and Disgust.

This year, the Lebanese people greet the holidays with a deep and mortal sadness in their hearts. On the eve of the holidays, three words sum up their emotional state: Angst, despair and disgust – which reflects the depth of the misery that has befallen them as a result of the political wilderness in which their country is in. The season’s joy, the children’s smile and the dreams of the young have indeed vanished.

And how could they not vanish with the wolves of politics continuing their onslaught on the nation and tearing it apart, with the rich getting richer, the poor sinking further in misery and destitution, and the young people left only with the dream of earning an exit visa to take them away from a hellish crisis that has no end in sight?

For a moment, there was a glimmer of hope – the Army. But the wolves of politics rushed to devour one of its beacons and put hurdles to prevent its leader from rescuing the republic out of an inevitable vacuum and perdition.

Not too long ago, massive popular celebrations swept across the regions following the fall of Nahr Al-Bared, and there was a huge mass funeral that stretched across the country in farewell to Brig. General Francois Hajj, proving that the people have decided to put their trust in the Army and pledge their allegiance to it, and that the overwhelming majority has tired of the politicians and given up on them. This majority is no longer with either the March 14 group or the March 8 group. Instead, the majority of the Lebanese people today are with the military institution, supporting and embracing it, and clinging to it in the hope that this institution will be able to snatch Lebanon out of the diabolical vortex in which the wolves have pushed it, and pump life back into the country’s arid veins.

In the meantime, we wish all the Lebanese all the best on these holidays in spite of everything.

Lebanon, at your service
