The Guardians of the Cedars Party issued the following weekly communiqué:
Referring the Fires to the International Tribunal
1) All indications are that the fires, which have resumed their ravaging of Lebanon north and south and finishing off its remaining forests and groves, are deliberate and intentional, and that the party behind them is the same party that is responsible for the series of assassinations and bombings that is ongoing in Lebanon. Didn’t the Syrian regime pledge to burn down Lebanon and destroy it over the heads of its people?
It would be desirable if the government referred this question to the International Tribunal because, first, the domestic agencies and services have so far failed to uncover the circumstances behind these fires, out of either fear or impotence, and second, because the string of fires burning Lebanon is as ugly a crime as the assassinations and bombings.
May God protect this country from the sick and hateful people.
The Party of the “Disgusted” is the Strongest
2) The ongoing brisk activity and meetings between the Lebanese leaderships in general, and the Maronite ones in particular, is being met with satisfaction among the Lebanese and has given them back some optimism in the possibility of peacefully passing the hurdle of the presidential elections.
It is important that these meetings continue and that they be broadened to include the remaining dueling leaderships. Those concerned should display a sense of responsibility and transcend their individual egotism in order to allow the national interest to prevail over the sectarian interests. That is, of course, if they are genuinely determined to extricate Lebanon from the bottomless abyss in which they themselves placed it.
Even more important is that they agree on a salvation candidate who possesses the exceptional qualifications to allow him to confront the recalcitrant crises awaiting him which have accumulated over the years. Should the political leaderships bring an ordinary President to the office, the Party of the Disgusted, the Desperate and the Emigrants will most likely become the strongest party in Lebanon.
