The Guardians of the Cedars Party issued the following weekly communiqué:

The election of President Michel Suleiman is a watershed in the modern history of the Republic of Lebanon, as it came after a vacuum that lasted 18 years and 6 months, that is after two successive presidencies elected and successively extended by the Syrian custody over Lebanon, and through which it ruled the Lebanon during this long and sinister period.

The heavy and unprecedented international attendance at the voting session in the manner that we witnessed confirms, yet again, the unique political position that Lebanon occupies on the world map, as well as the world’s embrace of this small nation in size but big in importance.

As for the popular celebrations that spread across the Lebanese regions following the announcement of the election, they reflect the thirst of the Lebanese people for a long-awaited leader who will put an end to the long journey of misery and pain, bring hope back to the desperate spirits, and lead the Lebanese ship to safe harbor.

The more important event in this election was the swearing in speech which put the finger on people’s wound and moved their feelings with courageous positions and pure patriotic principles. The mask was removed off the face of a unique personality blending realism with dream, and aiming at transforming the dire situation into a bright and promising tomorrow.

The challenges are many before the new President and the obstacles are more than can be counted. All that the people hope for is for the leader at the helm to transcend them with his famous wisdom and his distinct courage. May God help him overcome the many bumps which the coyotes of politics will surely plant on his way.

Hasn’t the time come for good to win over evil, just once?

Lebanon, at your service
