The Guardians of the Cedars Party issued the following weekly communiqué:
After the new President’s election we expected the political establishment to facilitate his task by giving him a free rein in the formation of the new government that will reflect the new regime and be its exemplar, a new government that will implement his political program as stated in his swearing-in speech which met with the approval and support of all political circles.
Instead, the political establishment is now putting sticks in the wheel, and its members have returned, as is their custom, to the politics of bickering, deception and a hysterical feeding frenzy on ministerial seats and the so-called “services” portfolios in the government, which they want to exploit at the next parliamentary elections. So much so that the national unity government, long extolled and which ignited a bitter war between the loyalists and the opposition, has now become a national division government and no more than a deceptive slogan behind which they hide their disputes over sectarian and religious apportioning, as well as their lust for power for the sake of power which they then distribute to their sons, sons-in-law, and tribesmen, and not for serving the nation and the citizen as they say.
The certainty of what we have been saying since 1975 is confirmed day after day, namely that Lebanon’s biggest catastrophe is its politicians who are quite literally diabolical. The only cause for the country’s many crises is this political gang that has relinquished its moral standing, despises its own people and sold its soul to the devil.
Day by day, the certainty is further confirmed of the magnitude of the crime perpetrated by Lebanon’s politicians the day they agreed in Taif, Saudi Arabia, to void the Presidency of the Republic of its authority, which created this absence of gravity in the country and resulted in serious harm to the process of the government and the constitutional institutions.
Hence, there are two conditions to saving the country and putting it back on the track of genuine reform. The first is to rid the political scene of the current gang of politicians. Second, to return the authority to the Presidency of the Republic. Both objectives are difficult to achieve, but there is on other option.
Lebanon, at your service
